Selecting a Target Unit or Assigning a Bed for a Patient

Selecting a target unit or assigning a bed is a crucial process for managing patient placement. This feature is used by healthcare staff to ensure patients are placed in appropriate units or beds based on their status and needs. It is used when a patient has a placement status of Requested, PreAdmit, or Pending Transfer.

How Selecting a Target Unit or Assigning a Bed Works

Functionality

  • Patient Status Requirements: The patient must be in one of the following statuses: PreAdmit, Pending Transfer.

  • Double Assignment: If enabled in the Master Configuration, the same bed can be assigned to more than one patient.

  • Permissions Required:

    • View Rights: Maintain Patient/Placement Details permission to view the form.

    • Edit Rights: Maintain Patient/Placement Details permission to make changes.

    • Specific Permissions: Edit Patient Name, Edit Patient Associated Physicians, Create New PreAdmits, Edit Target Unit on a Placement, Set Bed Assignment, Change Bed Assignment.

Accessing the Target Unit List or Assigned Bed List

  • From the Patient/Placement Details Form:

    1. Access the Patient/Placement Details form.

    2. Click the patient's name in the Name column to display the form.

    3. The Target Unit list and Assigned Bed list are on the right side.

  • From a List View:

    1. Click in the Plc Status or Pt Status column, and select Target Unit/Assign Bed.

    2. Click the patient's placement status in the Plc Status column.

    3. If enabled, click in the ST or Pt Status column and select Create Bed Request.

Workflows

Targeting a Unit

  1. Enter Bed Request: The Requesting Area enters a bed request into TeleTracking.

  2. Review Request: Patient Placement and/or the Receiving Unit reviews the request details.

  3. Target a Unit:

    • Click the Screen Alert message or identify the patient from the appropriate tab.

    • Open the Patient/Placement Details box and review the information.

    • Click the magnifying glass next to the Target Unit.

    • Select the desired unit and click Select.

    • Save and Close the record.

  4. Notification: A notification is sent to the Targeted Unit.

Assigning Beds

  1. Identify Patient: Identify the patient from the appropriate tab and click on their name.

  2. Assigned Bed Section: In the Patient Placement Details box, click on the Adv. Search button in the Assigned Bed section.

  3. Advanced Search: Review bed availability and details.

    • Unit Abbrev: Unit Name

    • Priority: Bed Assignment Priority

    • Bed: Bed Number and Gender info

    • ST: Patient Status information

    • Bed Size: Bed Size present in the room

    • Accom: Private or Semi-Private Rooms

    • Custom Attributes: Special features like proximity to Nurse's Station or Negative Pressure

  4. Set Bed: Click on the Bed Number to set the preferred bed.

  5. Save and Close: Save and Close the record.

  6. Notification: Both the Requesting Unit and the assigned bed unit receive a notification.
